After playing Sir Elton John in ‘Rocketman’, British actor Taron Egerton is eyeing the role of Wolverine and secretly hoping that his recent meeting with Marvel Studios executives confirms his casting for the X-Men character.
The 32-year-old actor, who is known for playing Eggsy in ‘Kingsman’, was interviewed by the New York Times for his upcoming Apple TV+ series ‘Black Bird’.
Egerton told the publication that he met with Marvel Studios executives, including president Kevin Feige, to express his desire of following Hugh Jackman’s footsteps and becoming the next Wolverine.
“I don’t think it would be wrong to say that. I’d be excited but I’d be apprehensive as well, because Hugh is so associated with the role that I’d wonder if it’d be very difficult for someone else to do it,” he said, adding that “hopefully if it does come around, they’ll give me a shot.”

Australian actor Hugh Jackman, who starred alongside Egerton in the 2016 sports drama ‘Eddie the Eagle’, last appeared as Wolverine in the 2017 film ‘Logan’.
Meanwhile, Egerton’s interview with the publication isn’t the first time that he has talked about playing the metal-clawed character on the big screen.
In 2019, he told British GQ that he knew some Marvel fans wanted him to be cast as Wolverine.
“That anyone thinks I would be good for the part is really flattering. I love Marvel, but it’s just fan stuff. There is no grounding for those rumors,” he said three years ago.

During the recent interview, Egerton also talked about the time he took on roles in the ‘Robin Hood’ and ‘Billionaire Boys Club’, the 2018 films that failed to garner critical- acclaim.
“I ignored my instincts on those two jobs because I was offered quite a lot of money to do them. And that’s just fatal. You can’t pick roles that way,” he said.
