Black Widow, one of the biggest movies at the global and domestic box office, was rumoured to have Tony Stark’s cameo which raised fans expectations. But in the final cut, there was no sign of Robert Downey Jr as Tony Stark in the Scarlett Johansson-starrer MCU release, which certainly left many Marvel Universe’s fans disappointed.

Cate Shortland, Black Widow’s director explained the reason behind the missing cameo in an interview with Total Film. He revealed that Marvel chief Kevin Feige said that Black Widow doesn’t need the boys to support her.

Shortland said, “Initially, there were discussions about everything, about all of the different characters. What we decided was, and I think Kevin was really great, he said, ‘She doesn’t need the boys.’ We didn’t want it to feel like she needs the support. We want her to stand alone. And she does.”

Most of the MCU standalone films regularly have cameos from various superheroes of other Marvel films. So the decision to not have a cameo from any of the male superheroes came as surprise to the fans.

Black Widow has however received positive reviews not only by the critics but also by the viewers. 

The story of Black Widow revolves around Natasha Romanoff confrontation of the darker parts of her ledger which is connected to her past. The film was given a score of 80 per cent on the Rotten Tomatoes website. Scarlett Johansson plays the role of Black Widow.

The star cast of the MCU film also includes Florence Pugh as Yelena Belova, David Harbour as Alexei, O-T Fagbenle as Mason, Olga Kurylenko as Antonia/Taskmaster, William Hurt as Secretary Ross, Ray Winstone as Dreykov, and Rachel Weisz as Melina.
