Will Smith created a worldwide uproar when he slapped Chris Rock on the stage of the 94th Academy Awards in March 2022. The controversy denies to die down since then as the 53-year-old was spotted with his wife Jada Pinkett-Smith on Saturday for the first time since the incident in earlier 2022.

The couple was spotted on August 13 afternoon at Nobu Malibu while on a date when they were photographed for the first time together since the infamous incident at the Academy Awards stage earlier this year.

Both Will and Jada looked to be in a good mood as the former was seen showing a peace sign to a fan. His wife, Jada, was holding onto his belt loop as the couple were walking towards their car.

The controversy with Chris Rock began at the Academy Awards stage, when Chris Rock, the host, made a comment regarding Jada’s hair loss saying, “Jada, I love ya. G.I. Jane 2, can’t wait to see ya.”

While it was a joke by Rock, who is also a comedian, Jada looked visibly frustrated by the comment, who has alopecia and has been vocal regarding her condition in public as she did an eye turn. The G.I. Jane 2 reference was about a 1997 film named G.I. Jane.

Will did not look to be offended initially, he walked onto the stage moments after and slapped Chris Rock in the face. This move by Will Smith left the audience in shock and was later criticised all over the world.

“Oh wow,” Rock said as Will Smith walked back to his seat before adding, “Will Smith just smacked the s**t out of me.”

Will Smith looked to be yelling from his seat, “Keep my wife’s name out of your f*****g mouth!” He later won the Best Actor award the same night for his role in Reinaldo Marcus Green’s 2021 film King Richard.

Smith’s decision to slap Chris Rock met with a worldwide uproar quickly, following which he apologized to the Oscar host before resigning from the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences. The organization also banned him from their annual awards ceremony for the next 10 years. However, he can still receive nominations and win awards at the Oscars.

Will Smith issued another apology to Chris Rock in July when he posted a video on his social media platforms.

“I’ve reached out to Chris and the message that came back is that he’s not ready to talk, and when he is he will reach out,” he said.

“So I will say to you, Chris, I apologize to you. My behavior was unacceptable, and I’m here whenever you’re ready to talk,” the actor added.

Will Smith also revealed that his wife Jada did not ask him to act and said that the incident was only his responsibility. He also apologized to Jada and the rest of his family for the unforeseen attention they have been receiving since then.
