The trailer of the film “King Richard”, starring Will Smith, which narrates the story of the rise of two of the greatest athletes of all time, was released by Warner Bros. on Wednesday.  

Inspired by true events, “King Richard” is a story of how Richard Williams (Smith), an undeterred father who was instrumental in raising Venus and Serena Williams, two of the best tennis players in the world.

While Venus is played by Saniyya Sidney, the character of Serena Williams will be played on screen by Demi Singleton. Helmed by acclaimed director Reinaldo Marcus Green, the moving trailer has already stirred a lot of conversation surrounding the possible box office hit.

The story is as much about the rise of the two sisters as it is about their adamant and driven father, who follows the vision and plan that he has to push his girls from the streets of Compton to the global stage as sporting icons.

The trailer is in itself very powerful, including an emotional speech from Will Smith where he states to the two sisters: “You will be representing every little Black girl on Earth.”

Meanwhile, debut screenwriter Zach Baylin has worked on the film. Will Smith’s wife Jada Pinkett Smith serves as an executive producer on “King Richard.”

The Williams sisters have been two of the most successful tennis players with Venus being a seven-time Grand Slam winner and Serena having won Grand Slam titles a record 23 times. The audience will surely be excited to see the rise of the two sisters playing out in front of their eyes in the new film.

Meanwhile, the “I am legend” actor has always been hailed for his innumerable portrayals of multiple real-life characters. His portrayal of the legendary boxer Muhammad Ali in Michael Mann’s “Ali” (2001) earned him his first Oscar nomination. Following the launch of the trailer, people have already started raving about his powerful performance in the film.

“King Richard” also stars Emmy nominee Aunjanue Ellis as Brandy Williams, Richard’s wife and mother to Serena and Venus.

The film is produced by Smith, Tim White and Trevor White with Venus and Serena Williams serving as executive producers, alongside their sister Isha Price.

“King Richard” will be released in theatres on November 19 and on HBO Max for 31 days following theatrical release.
