The grandeur of sadness as emotion and English musician Sam Smith’s songs played the role of ‘muse’ for the 17-year-old emerging singer-songwriter Kiara Chettri’s brand new single ‘Why’.
Kiara’s tryst with music started at an age of 4. She, then, released her first single titled ‘You’ll See’ at an age of 15 and all of 17, she’s got 6 singles and a full-length 10 track album to her name already, streaming across leading platforms and she hasn’t even completed her schooling as yet!
Talking about how she is juggling between career and school, she told Opoyi, “I am currently in class 12, in The Shri Ram School – Aravali. I was never a very exceptional student but I got decent marks. Since last year, music has been a part of my daily life more than ever. I learnt and am still learning how to balance music and studies and I think I am doing a good job. I make sure to never miss any deadlines, no matter how late I’ve been up at night writing songs. Studies never took a backseat because education is the most important aspect of anyone’s life.”

Kiara’s passion for music began at the age of 13.
“ I started learning music at the age of 4 but was never interested till I was 10. After I gave my grade 8 vocals exam from Trinity, I knew that music was what I wanted to pursue in life.
“I knew that I wanted to be a singer and songwriter but I was always scared of writing my own song. I thought my lyrics were not good enough. After a lot of pushing and motivation by my parents, I wrote my first song at the age of 14,” she said.

For her, music is not an easy path.
“To all the young and aspiring musicians out there, I am one of you. It is a tough path to choose but it is so worth it, if your passion for music is immense. There will be so many people who like your music and also so many people who don’t. People will bring you down but you just have to be mentally strong and prepared,” she said and added that education is also important while chasing your passion.
“It is really important but you do not need to finish it before you pursue your dreams. I am currently completing my education and also pursuing my dreams side by side. As long as you complete your education, whether it is side by side or not, it’s fine. Completing my education is very important to me and I know that it is helping me pursue my dreams,” she said.
