It appears like Joe Goldberg isn’t the only murderer prowling the streets of London in the fourth season trailer for Netflix’s You.

Joe Goldberg passed away. Or, more accurately, he faked his own death, made a fresh start in London, and assumed the identity of Professor Jonathan Moore. This appears to be the murdering psychopath’s greatest strategy for separating himself from the “messy” events of his past—specifically, all the killings that he has personally committed—and winning Marienne’s heart (Tati Gabrielle).

However, in the just released season 4 trailer, Marienne isn’t exactly on board with this strategy and accuses Joe of murder. “You’re wrong about me,” he insists. “I’m gonna prove it to you.”

Joe continues, “Heartbreak is always a catalyst for a new path,” and, to be honest, it appears that this season he will be playing the hesitant investigator.

Oh yes, it appears that Joe is not the only murderer prowling the streets of London: someone is targeting his new friendship group of “uber-wealthy socialites” – and “they’re calling him the ‘eat-the-rich’ killer,” according to the report.

“I ran away from all this. But one of you is watching me. One of you is hiding in plain sight,” intones Joe bitterly, amid a flash of blood and violence. “So… who are you?”

Who is pursuing Joe and his companions, then? Why?

Will Joe be able to identify which of the “most insane, damaged people on earth” has taken a special interest in him before it’s too late? This is perhaps the most crucial question of all.

The actor who plays Joe in the show, Penn Badgley, has already said he wants to see his character killed off before the season is out.

“Punishment is important, but what form of punishment is actually effective?” he told Vulture last summer.

“With Joe, the irony is that death is almost too easy for him,” he continued, adding that torture’s a possibility, but that it comes with its own problems.

“He deserves it, but does someone deserve to have to do it?” he said.

Meanwhile, Sera Gamble, the show’s creator, told EW that Joe still has this season to make amends. Apparently.

“Four seasons in, we need him to be reasonably self-aware but he obviously has huge blind spots,” she explained. “He keeps finding himself fucking up over and over again, so he will be working very hard to try to redeem himself this season. “That’s part of the fun of the season, is watching him try to be better and try to be kind of heroic in many ways.” Then perhaps Joe is destined to die stopping another murderer and saving his most recent true love in the process.

Only time will tell.
