Sushmita Sen, the first Indian woman to win the Miss Universe title in 1994, is an inspiration to today's young women. She later moved to Bollywood, where she is recognised as an outspoken actress who isn't afraid to live life on her own terms. 'Bold and beautiful' is an apt description of her.
Lara Dutta, the second Indian to bag the Miss Universe title, achieved so in 2000. She made her Bollywood debut in 2003, winning the 'Filmfare Best Female Debut Award' for her performance in the film 'Andaaz.' In Bollywood, she has had a fairly good career and is currently enjoying her married life with ace tennis player Mahesh Bhupathi.
Acknowledging India’s win after 21 years and congratulating the winner of Miss Universe 2021 pageant, she tweeted, “Congratulations @HarnaazSandhu03 !!!! Welcome to the club!!! The 21-year-old hailing from Punjab, who represented India at the 70th Miss Universe pageant in Eilat, Israel, won the title 21 years after Lara Dutta did in 2000.
She beat Paraguay and South Africa to win the competition.
Andrea Meza, former Miss Universe 2020 from Mexico, presented Sandhu with the crown at the event, which was live-streamed around the world.
