Countries
across the world have administered hundreds of millions of COVID-19 vaccine doses
in a desperate bid to protect people against the deadly infection and start a
recovery of economies battered by the disruptions of the pandemic.

A number of
countries have implemented advanced vaccination campaigns, with many of them
having fully vaccinated their most vulnerable people to raise hopes that the
worst of the pandemic may be over.

However, poorer
countries are struggling to buy the vaccines from manufacturers as the pandemic
continues to wreak havoc in waves.

A number of
countries have ramped up their vaccination efforts in the first quarter of
2021. Countries with the most advanced programmes, including the UK, the US and
Israel, have started to see the benefits of the vaccine as death rates have
plunged.

According
to data compiled by The Guardian, the US has administered over 319 million
vaccines, at a rate of 95.45 doses per 100 people.

But Gibraltar has the highest
rate of vaccination in the world, having administered 231.42 doses per 100
people. The United Arab Emirates is second in that list, with a rate of 147.94 per 100 people.

Meanwhile,
the UK has administered over 43 million doses, at a rate of 109.95 per 100
people. Other European countries, like Spain, France, Germany and Italy have a
rate between 72 to 82 doses per 100 people.

India,
having administered over 289 million doses, has a total vaccination of 21.0 per
100 people. China the highest number of vaccinations, with over a billion doses.

doses per 100 does not mean fully vaccinated, as most vaccines require two
doses.
