The BSE Sensex ended 276.46 points or 0.51% down at 16,167.10. The NSE Nifty tumbled 72.95 points or 0.45% to settle at 16,167.10. On the sectoral front, bank and realty indices were up 0.5% each, while IT, auto, FMCG, pharma, power and capital goods indices shed 0.5-1%. BSE midcap index slipped 0.4% and smallcap index fell 2.2%.

Adani Ports and Special Economic Zone (APSEZ): The shares ended 0.81% down at Rs 762.90 after the company said its board meeting to consider quarterly earnings was rescheduled to May 24. The earnings report was due today.

Asian Paints: The stock ended 0.97% down at Rs 3,056.50 but recovered smartly after falling over 3% on May 11. The company missed earnings estimates as profits remained flat. Asian Paints on May 10 reported half a per cent YoY rise in consolidated profit at Rs 874 crore for the quarter ended March 2022, as higher input costs pressured operating profit margin. Exceptional loss of Rs 115 crore also hit profit growth.

Cipla: Shares of the pharmaceutical company surged 1.28% to close at Rs 938.00 after it reported a consolidated profit after tax (PAT) of Rs 362 crore for the quarter ended March 31, 2022, down 12% from a year-ago period. The company had reported a PAT of Rs 729 crore in the December quarter of fiscal 2022. Consolidated revenue stood at Rs 5,260 crore, up 14% from the previous year. Revenue in the previous quarter stood at Rs 5,479 crore.

Welspun India: The share price plunged 16.43% to close at Rs 64.60 on May 11 after the firm reported a 62% YoY decline in consolidated net profit at Rs 51.25 for the quarter ended March 2022, impacted by lower operating income, lower other income, and tepid topline growth. Revenue surged by 4.3% to Rs 2,227 crore and EBITDA increased by 29.3% to Rs 226.5 crore during the same period.

Torrent Power: The stock fell 2.50% to close at Rs 456.90 on May 11 after the company reported a consolidated loss of Rs 487.4 crore in the March quarter of fiscal 2022 against the profit of Rs 398 crore posted in the same period last year due to an additional impairment charge of Rs 1,300 crore concerning DGEN Mega Power Project. Revenue from operations rose 21% YoY to Rs 3,744 crore in March 2022 quarter and EBITDA increased by 15% YoY to Rs 1,088 crore during the same quarter.
