UK Prime Minister Boris Johnson’s six-week-old daughter was badly hit by COVID-19 but is now ‘on the mend’, a source has confirmed.

Romy Iris Charlotte Johnson was born on December 9 at University College Hospital in London to mother Carrie, 33, and father Boris Johnson. She is the second child of the couple, after 20-month-old Wilfred.

The Prime Minister had cancelled a visit to Lancashire last Thursday, with Downing Street announcing that a certain family member had tested positive, without specifying who it was, according to a Daily Mail report.

A spokesman informed that the Prime Minister would ‘follow the guidance for vaccinated close contacts, including daily testing and limiting contact with others’.

He added that Johnson would continue to hold meetings and ‘for the large part that will be done virtually’.

Johnson did not appear in public ever since the announcement last week, barring Tuesday, for his interview with Sky News regarding ‘Partygate’ revelations.

According to the National Health Service (NHS), ‘Newborns do not appear to be at high risk of becoming seriously unwell with the virus. However, close observation of hygiene is important, particularly with family members resident in the house. Anyone who enters the home should take standard hygiene precautions, including washing their hands, and be careful about handling your baby if they have symptoms of any illness including the coronavirus.’

Johnson had been severely sick from COVID-19 in April 2020, while his pregnant wife was herself bedridden. She gave birth to their son the same month.

The next year, in 2021, she suffered a miscarriage, before becoming pregnant with Romy.

At the birth of her daughter, Mrs Johnson wrote on Instagram, “Thank you so much to the amazing maternity staff at UCLH for looking after us so well. We are so, so grateful,” according to the report by Daily Mail.
