Many lost their jobs, relationships and went through many lows in their lives during the coronavirus pandemic. During the course of this time, terms such as ‘burnout’, ‘depression‘, ‘anxiety’ and ‘mental health‘ were the most talked about. 

If you feel tired and lost, there are chances that you are suffering from burnout. Burnout is a phase when you experience prolonged stress, feel exhausted and can’t cope with any of your daily work. Therefore, one can’t reach a conclusion that activities such as travelling or outings can cure burnout.

There is no strong evidence related to what causes burnout and how it can be diagnosed. 

Burnout cannot be overcome in one go. It’s a constant process where you keep a track of your thoughts, actions and mind in a place away from a stressful environment and acknowledge that you deserve time to overcome exhaustion and stress.

Following could be the symptoms of burnout:- 

  1. Tiredness: One always feels exhausted and stressed. They can’t think clearly or set priorities. The physical symptoms include pain and gastrointestinal problems.
  2. A feeling to just disappear: People who suffer from burnout find it extremely stressful to cope with the work environment and their colleagues. There is always a desire to distance from everything. 
  3. Poor performance: Since the concentration power gets disturbed, the performance is affected as well in all walks of life be it at home or office. Individuals suffer from negative thoughts and lack of concentration power.

Severe cases of burnout can usually include mental illness like depression, anxiety and physical exhaustion. Therefore it is important for an individual to always take care of their mental health.

Here are some tips to take care of your mental health:-

1. Acknowledge your feelings.

2. Talk to experts and counsellors about your feelings. 

3. Give yourself time to relax.

4. Practice self-love.

5. Avoid toxic and unhealthy environment.
