Former President Donald Trump said on Saturday that he is planning to campaign against GOP Senator Lisa Murkowski in the 2022 election in Alaska.

Murkowski will be running for re-election in the Senate midterms. She is one of seven Republican senators who voted to convict Trump in his second impeachment trial.

Trump has made it clear over the past months that he will oppose all GOP leaders who voted to impeach him.

Trump said in a statement reported by Politico, “I will not be endorsing, under any circumstances, the failed candidate from the great State of Alaska, Lisa Murkowski. (Murkowski’s) vote to advance radical left democrat (sic) Deb Haaland for Secretary of the Interior is yet another example of Murkowski not standing up for Alaska”

“She represents her state badly and her country even worse. I do not know where other people will be next year, but I know where I will be — in Alaska campaigning against a disloyal and very bad Senator,” he added

The Trump presidency may have created a sharp divide between the Republicans like Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell, Murkowski and the ones who staunchly support Trump.

During his speech at the Conservative Political Action Conference(CPAC), which marked his first appearance since leaving office, Trump called the Republicans who backed his impeachment “Republicans in name only(RINOs),” and “grandstanders”.

However, Mitch McConnell committed earlier this week that Senate Republicans will be supporting Murkowski, saying “absolutely” when asked by CNN.
