Argentine football legend Diego Maradona left the hospital on Wednesday, eight days after he underwent successful brain surgery for a blood clot, AFP reported.

Followed by a convoy of supporters, Maradona did not speak to media or his fans gathered outside in masks as he left the Olivos clinic in Buenos Aires by ambulance shortly after his doctor Leopoldo Luque told reporters he could go home.

World Cup winner Maradona had been taken to hospital in La Plata on November 2 for a series of tests after feeling unwell.

He will most likely continue his rehabilitation in Tigre near his daughter Giannina’s home.

Maradona, who has a history of drug and alcohol abuse and poor health, has suffered two heart attacks in the past and contracted hepatitis.

The former Argentina captain, who led his team to victory in the 1986 World Cup, is currently the coach of Argentine SuperLiga club Gimnasia.
