Former Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis on Saturday announced that he has tested positive for the coronavirus.

Taking to his Twitter account, Fadnavis said, “I have been working every single day since the lockdown but now it seems that God wants me to stop for a while and take a break !
I have tested #COVID19 positive and in isolation.
Taking all medication & treatment as per the advice of the doctors.”

In another tweet, he urged all those who have come in contact with him recently to get themselves tested for the virus.

Fadnavis, in charge for the Bharatiya Janata Party’s (BJP) campaign for the upcoming Bihar assembly election, is the latest in a string of high-profile political leaders to have contracted the infection recently.

Senior Congress leader Ghulam Nabi Azad tested positive for the virus on October 16, two days after Samajwadi Party supremo and former Uttar Pradesh chief minister Mulayam Singh Yadav tested positive

Home Minister Amit Shah, Road and Transport Minister Nitin Gadkari, Culture and Tourism Minister Prahlad Singh Patel, Petroleum and Natural Gas Minister Dharmendra Pradhan and Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan are among other prominent BJP leaders to have contracted the infection in recent months.
