Patrick Reed is currently in a Houston-area hospital recovering from bilateral pneumonia, the American golfer said in a statement on Monday. Reed had returned home to Houston just last week and was diagnosed with bilateral interstitial pneumonia while his ankle was being examined by doctors. He was admitted to Houston Methodist Hospital on Friday.

“I just want to update everyone…First and foremost-thank you all for your support. The good news is, my ankle is okay. The bad news is I’ve been in the hospital with bilateral pneumonia. I’m on the road to recovery, once I’m cleared from the doctors-I look forward to returning,” he said in a statement to Golf Channel’s Todd Lewis.

“I wish you all the best and I can’t wait to get back out there! Thank you so much for your support, it means a lot to me. Also a special thank you to the doctors nurses and staff at the Methodist Hospital in the Texas Medical Center,” he added.

Reed was forced to withdraw from last week’s Wyndham Championship due to ankle injury and will not be able to play this week’s BMW Championship.

There’s a lot at stake for the golfer in the coming months. He’s currently at the 22nd position in the FedEx Cup standings but may falls a few spots ahead of the BMW Championship. The top 30 in the FedEx Cup will advance to the Tour Championship at East Lake, which Reed had not missed in the last seven years.

Reed was born on August 5 1995 in the city of San Antonio in Texas and graduated from Augusta State University in Georgia. The golfer made his debut in PGA a decade ago in 2011 and has since then gained the reputation of a golfing star. Reed, who is 31 years old, is currently seeded at the 21st rank on the PGA money list.
