The last of Us has left even the all-time best shows behind like Game of Thrones, The Sopranos with its mind-blowing storyline.  In an Alberta CTV news story, while discussing the ongoing filming of the popular show, one key detail that was noticed by the people of the show was the massive budget for the series. The series is a video game adaption and costs more than $13 million per episode, with a total budget coming to hundreds of millions, IATSE (International Alliance of Theatrical Stage Employees) Alberta president Damian Petti said.

Mr. Peti further added, %u201CThis project well exceeds the eight-figure per episode mark, so there is a multiplier effect on our economy in terms of its impact. There are hundreds of related businesses benefiting from the plethora of work.%u201D

This insane eight-figure budget will place the show high up on the list of most expensive TV shows ever made which HBO seems to dominate evidently, having shows like Game of Thrones and The Pacific on the particular list. Also, Disney+%u2019s Star Wars series The Mandalorian is near the top of the list.

The main question is will The Last of Us actually beat Game of Thrones as HBO%u2019s most expensive series ever made? If you don%u2019t know, the Game of Thrones budget had peaked from $13 million per episode to upwards of $20 million by the eighth season. One more to the list was Pacific, which also boasted pricey episodes, with around $27 million per episode dedicated to the WWII miniseries.

The Last of Us is made up of 10 episodes meaning that the budget will end up exceeding that of the final season of Game of Thrones. Mr. Petti communicated, %u201CThe Last of Us, which commences photography this week, is indeed a monster, it has five art directors and employs an army of hundreds of technicians. It has had six months of prep and shoots [in Alberta] for 12 months.%u201D

However, the show has one more major competitor that is the upcoming Lord of the Rings series which is already soaring to new heights, with an expected $634 million just the first season.
