A total of 13,742 new coronavirus cases were reported in a day in India, taking the tally to 110,30,176, according to the Union Health Ministry data updated on Wednesday. The death toll increased to 156,567 with 104 new deaths, the data updated at 8 am showed. According to the ministry, the number of recoveries have crossed 1.07 crore.

The number of people who have recovered from the disease surged to 107,26,702 and the case fatality rate stands at 1.42%.

There are 146,907 active coronavirus infections in the country, which comprises 1.34% of the total caseload, the data stated.

India’s COVID-19 tally had crossed the one-crore mark on December 19.

According to the Indian Council of Medical Research, 2,130,36,275 samples have been tested up to February 22 with 805,844 samples being tested on Tuesday.

According to the health ministry, 1,21,65,598 people have been vaccinated in the country since the vaccination programme started on January 16.

Meanwhile, Delhi on Wednesday made it mandatory for travellers from five states to enter the national capital only after showing a COVID-19 negative report. These states include Maharashtra, Kerala, Chhattisgarh, Madhya Pradesh and Punjab. The Union health secretary wrote a letter to these states and asked them to undertake aggressive measures against coronavirus.

Maharashtra has imposed night curfew in few cities across the state to control the spread of the deadly virus.
