India on Monday recorded 15,388 new COVID-19 cases, the Union Health Ministry’s data released on Tuesday showed. 77 deaths were recorded in the past 24 hours. This has brought India’s total coronavirus tally to reach 11,244,786, along with 157,930 deaths.

There are 187462 active virus cases in the country, while 10,899,394 have recovered.

748,525 samples for the novel coronavirus were tested in the past 24 hours, the Indian Council of Medical Research (ICMR) said. Thus, 222,716,796 samples have been tested, till March 8.

India started its mass vaccination drive on January 16. Since then, 23,008,733 people have received at least one dose of either of the two COVID-19 vaccines approved by India.

India had recorded its first COVID-19 case on January 30, last year. Since then, it has emerged as the second worst-hit nation, after the United States that has recorded more than 29 million cases and 525,752 deaths.

Globally, the novel coronavirus has infected 117,135,380 COVID-19 cases and 2,599,792 deaths.
