India in the last 24 hours recorded 343,144 cases of coronavirus, taking the nation’s tally of COVID-19 cases to 24,046,809. On Thursday, 4,000 people died across the nation from COVID-related complications. The death toll from COVID-19 in India has now climbed up to 262,317. 

There are currently 3,704,893 active cases of COVID-19 in India. The tally of recovered COVID-19 cases in India now stands at 20,079,599, after an additional 344,776 people recovered from the infection on Thursday. 

India is reeling under an aggressive second wave of COVID-19 that has brought the country’s healthcare sector to a breaking point. Shortages of medical oxygen, hospital beds and COVID vaccines are being reported from across the country.

The mass inoculation drive against the disease started on January 16, and till now 179,298,584 have at least received a single shot of the vaccine.

The third phase of COVID-19 vaccination in India began on May 1, in which every person above the age of 18 is eligible to get vaccinated.
