India on Friday recorded 60,753 new COVID-19 cases, bringing the tally to reach 29,823,546, the Union Health Ministry’s data released on Saturday showed. With 1,647 more deaths, the toll has reached 385,137.

There are 760,019 active cases in the country, while 28,678,390 have recovered.

As many as 389,207,637 samples have been tested for the novel coronavirus till June 18, as per the Indian Council of Medical Research (ICMR). This includes 1,902,009 samples tested on Friday.

India started its mass vaccination drive against COVID-19 on January 16. As per the latest count, 272,388,783 have received at least one dose of the COVID-19 vaccine.

Badly hit by a ferocious second wave of COVID-19, India is the second-worst hit country by the pandemic. With over 35.5 million cases and 600,000 deaths, the United States remains the worst hit.

Globally, the novel coronavirus has infected over 177.7 million people and has killed 3.8 million of them.
