India on Wednesday recorded 200,739 new COVID-19 cases, the Union Health Ministry’s data released on Thursday showed. This has pushed the tally to reach 14,074,564. With 1,038 deaths reported in the past 24 hours, the toll has increased to 173,123.

There are 1,471,877 active cases in the country, while 12,429,564 have recovered.

262,003,415 samples have been tested for the novel coronavirus till April 14. This includes 1,384,549 samples tested on Wednesday, the Indian Council of Medical Research (ICMR) said.

India started its mass vaccination drive against coronavirus on January 16. 114,493,238 people have received at least one dose of the two COVID-19 vaccines, Covaxin and Covishield, approved by India. 

Covaxin is the indigenous vaccine, developed by Bharat Biotech. Covaxin is AstraZeneca/Oxford jab, being manufactured at Pune’s Serum Institute.

As India is witnessing an aggressive second wave of the pandemic, it has agreed to fast-track vaccine approvals that have already been authorised by drug regulators in the US, UK, European Union and Japan or those that have been cleared by the WHO.
