India on Friday recorded 2,34,692 new COVID-19 cases, the Union
Health Ministry’s data released on Saturday showed. This has pushed the country’s
total tally to reach 1,45,26,609. 1,341 deaths were recorded in the past 24 hours, pushing
the death toll to 1,75,649 .

There are 16,79,740 active cases in the country, while 1,26,71,220 have
recovered.

A total of 11,99,37,641 people have been vaccinated till now.

26,49,72,022 samples have been tested for the novel coronavirus till
April 16. This includes 14,95,397 samples tested on Friday, the Indian Council of
Medical Research (ICMR) said.

India started its mass vaccination drive against coronavirus
on January 16 and its three phases have since been launched.

Covaxin is the indigenous vaccine, developed by Bharat
Biotech. Covaxin is AstraZeneca/Oxford Mjab, being manufactured at Pune’s Serum
Institute.

India’s COVID-19 tally had crossed the 2-million mark on
August 7; 3-million on August 23; 4-million on September 5; and 5-million on
September 16. It went past 6 million on September 28; 7 million on October 11;
8 million on October 29; 9 million on November 20; and the 10-million mark on
December 19.
