With 82,170 fresh cases in the last 24 hours, India’s COVID-19 tally has breached the six million mark. The country has reported 6,074,703 cases, as per the Health Ministry’s data, released on Monday. 

With 1,039 deaths reported on Sunday, India’s coronavirus death toll has reached 95,542.

Since the pandemic hit India, a total of 5,01,6521 people have recovered from the disease or have been discharged, the Health Ministry’s data showed. Currently, there are 962,640 active cases in the country.

According to the Indian Centre of Medical Research (ICMR), 71,967,230 samples tested up to September 27. Of these, 709,394 samples were tested over the past 24 hours.

India has emerged as the second-worst hit nation by COVID-19. The United States remains the worst-hit country, with over 7.1 million cases and more than 204,750 deaths, as per the tally by John Hopkins University.

Since the coronavirus outbreak was first reported in December, last year in China, the disease has infected over 32.9 million people worldwide and killed one million.
