As Delta variant of the coronavirus continues to add on to the COVID-19 cases in Europe, Italy has decided to mandate COVID vaccination certificate from August 6 to access a range of venues, including indoor restaurants, cinemas, and gyms. Italy is the latest country in Europe to come up with the policy.

The move will allow all the citizens aged 12 or above and who have received at least one dose of COVID vaccine to visit various facilities like restaurants, movie theatres, gyms, and other venues within the nation.

This is done to encourage people to get vaccinated and make the process, which a lot of people are apprehensive about, attractive for the masses.

The number of new COVID cases has almost doubled over the past week, with more than 5,000 corona infections reported on Thursday.

As far as the vaccination process of the country is concerned, about half of the Italian population is now fully vaccinated against COVID but the summer holiday season is dissuading some to turn up for their appointments, reported BBC.

Amid the growing concerns, a right-wing conspiracy theory encouraging people not to get vaccinated against COVID for a range of reasons is also posing threat to the country’s vaccination programme.

Italy’s Prime Minister Mario Draghi has condemned right-wing politicians who have discouraged young people from getting inoculated.

The new and highly contagious Delta variant continues to be a cause of concern for several countries including health the US and New Zealand that were either untouched by COVID ravages or could manage to come out of it due to mass vaccination.

The Delta variant was responsible for deadly waves of COVID-19 in India, the UK, and European countries that are still reeling with the rampageous effect of coronavirus.
