US President Donald Trump confirmed on Friday that his close aide Hope Hicks has tested positive for coronavirus. Trump and First Lady Melania Trump are also awaiting their test results, the President said on Twitter.

“In the meantime, we will begin our quarantine process!” he said.

Hicks traveled with the President on Air Force One this Tuesday to fly to Cleveland for the first presidential debate with Democrat Joe Biden.

She was also with him on the Marine One helicopter Wednesday when he flew back to the White House after a rally in Minnesota.

In February this year, Hicks was appointed as an aide to Trump’s son-in-law and advisor Jared Kushner. She is also serving as a counselor to Trump.

She earlier served as the White House director of strategic communication, followed by her stint as the interim communications director.

Trump has often downplayed the risks of the novel coronavirus. Apart from touting unproven remedies for the disease, the President is hardly seen wearing a mask in public.
