Kim Kardashian’s destination birthday celebration in a remote tropical island prompted severe online backlash for being irresponsible amid the pandemic after she posted pictures flaunting her lavish
party.

Kardashian, who reportedly
chartered a private jet, spent her birthday week dancing, kayaking and
swimming with whales on a private isle with her closer inner circle. She was trolled for having a fun birthday party and not thinking about the health hazards.

“Pretend things were
normal just for a brief moment in time,” she tweeted.

 According to TMZ, sisters
Khloe and Kourtney and half-sister Kendall Jenner were also party to the birthday
jam that took them some 4,000 miles (6,400 kilometers) from Los Angeles to
Tahiti while husband Kanye West reportedly joined the party midway through the
week.

“Before COVID, I don’t
think any of us truly appreciated what a simple luxury it was to be able to
travel and be together with family and friends in a safe environment,” she
wrote in another post (link)

Kim’s social media posts bragging luxurious gaiety were immediately condemned as
“disgustingly tone deaf” by social media users at a time when
coronavirus has killed more than 226,000 Americans, and California remains under
a non-essential travel ban.

Amongst the criticisers were British
musician Peter Frampton who took it to twitter and said, “People are going to food banks not private islands.”

“Cool, people have had
to say goodbye to loved ones over the phone while they died alone in a
hospital. But neat trip to post all over social media while the world suffers. So
humble and so down to earth, truly,” said another tweet

Kardashian, however, defended
her move by claiming that her guests were quarantined for two weeks before
departure and cleared all the health screenings, mandated by the authorities.

So far COVID-19 transmission has
killed more than 226,000 Americans while California the state where Kardashian
resides is under a non-essential travel ban.
