In the afternoon session, Indian stock markets remained higher owing to purchasing in consumer durables, healthcare, and real estate equities. Buying in frontline companies like Bharti Airtel, Ultratech Cement, and HDFC aided sentiment, but selling in ITC, Indusind Bank, and Infosys held back market gains.

On the global front, Asian markets were trading mostly higher Taiwan Weighted strengthened 28.65 points or 0.16% to 17,548.66, KOSPI rose 10.99 points or 0.4% to 2,740.55, Nikkei 225 surged 308.53 points or 1.1% to 28,252.42 and Hang Seng was up by 166.18 points or 0.77% to 21,851.15. On the flip side, Shanghai Composite declined 3.59 points or 0.11% to 3,210.91, Jakarta Composite lost 7.39 points or 0.1% to 7,042.21 and Straits Times was down by 10.37 points or 0.3% to 3,421.62.

The Sensex is presently trading at 57,734.48, up 140.99 points or 0.24% from a low of 57,644.85 and a high of 57,934.15. On the index, there were 18 stocks that advanced and 12 stocks that declined.

The broader indices were trading in green with the BSE Midcap index rising 0.40%, while the Small cap index was up by 0.40%. The top gaining sectoral indices on the BSE were Consumer Durables up by 0.82%, Healthcare up by 0.77%, Realty up by 0.74%, Telecom up by 0.69% and Basic Materials was up by 0.68%, while Energy down by 0.92%, Oil & Gas down by 0.91%, PSU down by 0.66%, Metal down by 0.65% and FMCG was down by 0.12% were the top losing indices on BSE.

The top gainers on the Sensex were Bharti Airtel up by 3.14%, Ultratech Cement up by 2.50%, HDFC up by 2.22%, Mahindra & Mahindra up by 1.71% and Sun Pharma was up by 0.90%. On the flip side, ITC is down by 1.05%, Indusind Bank down by 0.98%, Infosys down by 0.58%, SBI down by 0.56% and Tata Steel was down by 0.49% were the top losers.

The Nifty is presently trading at 17,266.00, up 44.00 points or 0.26% after trading in a range of 17,241.60 and 17,322.25. On the index, there were 31 stocks that advanced and 19 stocks that declined.

The top gainers on Nifty were Bharti Airtel up by 3.20%, Divi’s Lab up by 2.65%, Ultratech Cement up by 2.43%, Eicher Motors up by 2.25% and HDFC was up by 2.17%. On the flip side, ONGC down by 3.01%, Coal India down by 2.67%, ITC down by 0.99%, Indusind Bank down by 0.98% and Hindalco was down by 0.71% were the top losers.
