London witnessed a mass COVID-19 vaccination drive on Saturday as football grounds in the capital were transformed into vaccination centers. This event was dubbed “super Saturday“, reported the Guardian. Clinics were set up at the London Stadium, Stamford Bridge, the Tottenham Hotspur stadium, the Valley, home of Charlton Athletic, and Selhurst Park.

London’s mayor Sadiq Khan, in a social media post, said he was delighted to visit Stamford Bridge where 6,000 Pfizer vaccines were available for benefactors.

“Chelsea FC, West Ham at the London Stadium, Tottenham Hotspur FC, Charlton Athletic FC, are hosting large-scale pop-up clinics, and there are a huge number of events taking place in local community centres, so that as many people as possible get convenient access to the life-saving Covid jabs,” Khan said.

On Saturday afternoon he tweeted: “Once again, I’m blown away by the efficiency, passion and professionalism of NHS staff and volunteers.”

Earlier, on June 15, British Prime Minister Boris Johnson, on Monday, announced a four-week delay to the full lifting of coronavirus restrictions in England due to a surge of infections caused by the Delta variant.
