On Sunday, Actor Dilip Kumar was diagnosed with bilateral pleural effusion and was admitted to P D Hinduja Hospital in Mumbai, after he complained of breathing issues.
Bilateral pleural effusion is not an uncommon finding in clinical practice, which is sometimes referred to as “water on the lungs,” is the build-up of excess fluid in the pleural space, an area between the layers of tissue that line the lungs and the chest wall.

The pleural are thin membranes that act to lubricate and facilitate breathing. While speaking with a leading daily, Cardiologist Dr. Nithin Gokhale and pulmonologist Dr. Jalil Parkar confirmed the news and said that Dilip Kumar has been put on oxygen support and was diagnosed with bilateral pleural effusion along with a drop in oxygen saturation.

Earlier today, a tweet was shared on the actor’s Twitter handle which clarified that Dilip Kumar was not admitted for COVID 19 but for routine tests and investigations after he had episodes of breathlessness. Doctors confirmed that his condition was currently stable and not in the ICU or on a ventilator. Dilip Kumar may be discharged in two to three days if everything goes well. The 98-year old actor has been unwell for a few years now and often visits the hospitals for regular checkups.
