Actor Sandeep Nahar, who starred in the 2016 film ‘MS Dhoni: The Untold Story’ and the 2019 film ‘Kesari’ died by suicide on Monday. Before his death, he took to Facebook to say that no one from his family should be blamed for it.
Nahar had come to Mumbai after graduation to make his career as an actor.

He did his graduation from Chandigarh and later, came to Mumbai. He was in his 30s and was married. However, with life, comes its struggles. Sandeep Nahar was fighting the hurdles of Bollywood but his personal life was also topsy-turvy. In his suicide note, he said the industry (Bollywood) ate away a lot of his time. The internal politics made it difficult for him to work. He said that the people would finalise assignments and then drop him at the last moment. Besides that, friction in his marriage was also mentally draining for him, he said in his suicide note. However, he reiterated that his wife should not be harassed after his death.
The actor was known for playing supporting roles in movies like ‘MS Dhoni: The Untold Story’ and ‘Kesari’. In June last year, when Sushant Singh Rajput, who played MS Dhoni in the movie was also found dead in his residence, Nahar had shared condolences on his Instagram.
Nahar also admitted in his suicide note that he would have ended his life before but he gave himself a few tries to fix it.
The active conversation around mental health is the need of the hour. In South Korea, the deaths of many young celebrities by suicide have prompted the need for mental health care.

India too needs to realise the dangers of poor mental health in the country. As long as India ignores mental health and calls mental illnesses a ‘disease of the weak’, we will continue to lose promising, young lives to stigma.
