Several ministers and officials at Downing Street would be waiting to find out if they have to self-isolate after their colleague, Health Secretary Sajid Javid tested positive for COVID-19. This news came hours before the United Kingdom lifts all COVID-19 restrictions.

Javid had a meeting with Prime Miniter Boris Johnson hours before he started feeling unwell. He had also been working from his office at the Department of Health and Social Care in Whitehall and was in the Commons chamber three times, BBC adds. The Prime Minister will self-isolate himself this week, Downing Street said on Sunday.

According to the report, the United Kingdom National Health Service (NHS) has been looking at Javid’s recent close contacts to determine if they have to isolate or not.

The UK health secretary had received both the vaccine doses for COVID-19. He took to Twitter to say that he took the lateral flow test after feeling ‘a bit groggy’ on Friday evening. He later announced that the test had come positive.

Javid described the symptoms as very mild. He said that he would continue working from home in self-isolation. The former Home Secretary also urged people to get vaccinated.

As the reports of Javid testing positive came out, several Liberal Democrats including Health spokeswoman Munira Wilson urged the government to reconsider the lifting of measures.

“By easing all restrictions with cases surging, they are experimenting with people’s lives,” Wilson said, as per BBC reports.
