With Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI)'s announcement of team India's squad for T20 World Cup 2021 expected anytime now, Krunal Pandya has expressed hope to play a World Cup with his brother Hardik. The T20 World Cup will take place in Oman and the UAE from October 17. Another T20 World Cup is scheduled to be played next year in Australia, after which India will host the 2023 World Cup.
Talking about being very close to achieving the dream of two brothers being part of a World Cup squad, Krunal said, "Let's hope it happens soon. Plenty of World Cups coming soon."
Talking about his form, Krunal told ESPNCricinfo, that he believes he is "a proper batsman who can bat at any number from three to seven."
"I can finish the game as well, which I have done in the past. And I have done the role where I go in at 20 for 2 or 20 for 3 and I have to build an innings. I wouldn't say I'm a floater or a finisher. I feel that I am a proper batsman who can do anything in any situation," he said.
"With bowling as well, I have bowled in powerplays, I have bowled in the middle overs, I have bowled those 16th-17th overs and I have bowled the 20th as well. I can perform any role the team requires of me. I don't want to be a one-dimensional player. I don't want to be a player who can only do some particular role. I want to be that player who is flexible and ready to do anything for the team, whichever team I play for," he added.
India have been placed in Group 2 alongside Pakistan, New Zealand and Afghanistan in the T20 World Cup fixtures. India will start their campaign in a clash with Pakistan on October 24. The team will play three of their four matches at the Dubai International Cricket Stadium. One match will be played against Afghanistan in Abu Dhabi's Sheikh Zayed Stadium.
A total of 18 players will be picked for the event, including three reserves. Batting legend Sunil Gavaskar on Tuesday picked his 15-man India squad for the tournament. He left out Shikhar Dhawan and Shreyas Iyer and included Shardul Thakur and Krunal Pandya.
