Two cops were killed and 12 others injured as militants fired on a bus carrying Jammu and Kashmir Armed Police personnel on the  outskirts of Jammu and Kashmir’s summer capital city Srinagar on Monday. A police spokesman said the deceased include an Assistant Sub Inspector (ASI) and a constable. The attack took place in Zewan in Pantha Chowk area. The injured cops were evacuated to different hospitals for treatment, where two of them succumbed to injuries. A manhunt has been launched to nab the militants and the area has been cordoned off by security forces for a search operation.

No outfit has so far claimed the firing on the police bus which came on the 20th anniversary of the attack on the Parliament building in the national capital by the Jaish-e-Mohammad terrorist outfit.

On December 13 in 2001, terrorists attacked the Parliament complex in New Delhi, killing nine people, before all five of the assailants were shot dead.

Earlier in the day, two unidentified militants were killed in an encounter with security forces in Rangreth area on the outskirts of Srinagar, police said.

In a tweet, the Kashmir Zone Police said, “02 unidentified #terrorists killed. Search going on. Further details shall follow.”

Meanwhile, a Personal Security Officer (PSO) of a BJP worker went missing on Monday along with two rifles from Kupwara district of Jammu and Kashmir, officials said.

Saqib Tantray, a resident of Bohipora in Kupwara, was posted as a PSO to BJP worker Abdul Rashid Zargar, who is staying at Old MLA hostel in Kupwara, they said.

During investigation, it came to light that two rifles were also missing from Zargar’s residence, they said.

A close associate, also neighbor, of Saqib Tantray, identified as Arif Ahmad Mir, has also been missing since morning, the officials added.
