Prithvi Shaw is now a prominent name on the news after he joined the list of Indian cricketers to score a double century– along with Sachin Tendulkar, Virendra Sehwag, Rohit Sharma, Sanju Samson, and Yashasvi Jaiswal. The 21-year-old, on Thursday, reached 200 off 142 balls before reaching 247 not out in the 50-over-match. Not only that, but he also became the highest individual scorer in the Vijay Hazare Trophy.

He also broke a record in domestic cricket which was earlier held by Sachin Tendulkar. However, a lot is not known about the player who was dropped off from India’s Test team and was also not selected in the 5-match T20I series. Here are five things to know about Prithvi Shaw:

Origin: Prithvi Shaw belongs from Virar, a small town in Maharashtra. Brought up by his father, after his mother died when he was very young, Shaw has been invested in cricket since a very young age. He would travel every day from Virar to Churchgate for his cricket practice.  

Several feathers on his hat: Prithvi Shaw had led India to the World Cup title in 2018 and, in the process, had also become the second youngest batsman to debut for India after Sachin Tendulkar. In IPL, he had impressed everyone with his stellar performance. He had scored 245 runs in 9 innings against Delhi Daredevils.

Records: Prithvi Shaw also made a national record when we score more than 500 runs for Rizvi Springfield against St Francis D’Assisi in an inter-school game. Sachin Tendulkar, talking about the young player had said that a friend of Tendulkar had asked him to watch Shaw’s game and give him pointers to improve. Tendulkar had done that and also said that the boy would go on and play for India one day.

Doping Case: Prithvi Shaw, who was registered with the Mumbai cricket association at that time, was handed an eight-month suspension during the 2018-19 domestic session for a doping violation. He was accused of ingesting Terbutaline that is found in cough syrup.

International achievements: Shaw was invited to play in England at Cheadle Hulme School in Manchester and after his great performance during his two-months stay was also offered training at Julian Wood Cricket Academy. He was also played for the Cleethorpes in the Yorkshire ECB County Premier League.
