An earthquake of magnitude 5.4 on the Richter scale struck near the Sikkim-Bhutan border at 8.49 pm on Monday, reports ANI quoting National Center for Seismology.

The tremors were also felt in parts of Assam, Bihar, and West Bengal, reports ANI.

According to the National Center for Seismology, the epicentre of the quake, which struck at a depth of 10 km, was 25 km east-southeast (ESE) of Gangtok, Sikkim.

As per reports, tremors were also felt in Nepal and Bhutan.

People got frightened and rushed out of their houses but no loss of life or property has been reported so far, an official said, reports PTI. 

Prime Minister Narendra Modi took stock of damage in the states due to the quake and spoke to the chief ministers of the four affected states, PTI reports quoting government sources.
