Of the 14 newly sworn-in ministers in Bihar, eight of them have criminal cases pending against them, according to an analysis of self-sworn affidavits conducted by Association for Democratic Reforms (ADR), reported PTI.

Six (43%) of the ministers have declared serious criminal cases against themselves as per the poll rights group. Serious criminal cases are non-bailable offences with more than five years of imprisonment.

It said two out of six ministers were scrutinised from the JD(U), four out of six ministers were analysed from the BJP, one minister was analysed from the Hindustani Awam Morcha (Secular), and one from the Vikassheel Insaan Party.

Eight or 57% ministers have been facing criminal cases, it mentioned.

As many as 13 (93%) are crorepatis with their average assets estimated at Rs 3.93 crores, the report said.

Mewa Lal Choudhary is the minister from Tarapur constituency with the most declared total assets worth Rs 12.31 crore whereas the minister with the lowest declared total assets is a former member of Bihar Legislative Council Ashok Chaudhary with assets worth Rs 72.89 lakh, it added.

Four (29%) ministers have proclaimed their educational qualification to be between Class 8 and 12, while 10 (71%) ministers have declared having an educational qualification of graduate or above, the poll rights body said.

An aggregate of six (43%) ministers have declared their age to be between 41-50 years, while eight (57%) ministers have declared their age to be between 51-75 years. Out of 14 ministers, two are women, it said.

The Bihar assembly elections for 243 sets were held in three phases: October 28 (for 71 seats), November 3 (for 94 seats) and November 7 (for 78 seats).

The National Democratic Alliance (NDA) won the elections after securing majority.

On Monday, a 14-member council of ministers, led by Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar, was sworn-in by Governor Phagu Chauhan.
