Bihar health authorities have initiated an investigation after it was discovered that a man had already received 11 doses of COVID-19 vaccination and was attempting to receive his 12th.

The man, Brahmadeo Mandal, an 84-year-old from Madhepura district, was caught by personnel at a vaccination centre while trying to acquire his 12th jab, according to reports.

Mandal, a retired Postal Department employee, had his first COVID-19 vaccine in February 2021, followed by one in each of the following five months: March, May, June, July, and August.

He received three doses in September alone, and by December, Mandal claimed he had received 11 doses of COVID-19 vaccination.

Mandal stated that he had registered using two cellphone connections, including his wife’s, and had submitted his Aadhar card, voter identity card, and other documentation.

Mandal said the vaccine was a “wonderful thing” that the government had introduced, and that it made him feel better every time he got it.

“I benefited a lot from vaccines…I got relief from my back pain and waist pain and this is why I’ve been taking it repeatedly. Everyone should get vaccines,” he said.

Mandal has had no negative health impacts despite receiving so many COVID-19 vaccination doses at such short intervals.

Because most persons who have been vaccinated have received two doses, 11 doses of COVID-19 vaccine for one person should easily be a world record.

Some people have had three or, in rare cases, four vaccinations in places where booster doses are offered.

In India, COVID-19 booster doses have been approved as a preventive measure in light of the growing omicron variant, and healthcare and frontline workers will begin receiving them on January 10.

Bharat Biotech received approval from India’s pharma authority on Wednesday to conduct late-stage studies of its nasal COVID-19 vaccine, which will be given as a booster dose.

In December, the vaccine company filed a late-stage trial application with the Drugs Controller General of India (DCGI), claiming that an intranasal vaccine as a booster dosage would be easier to deliver in mass vaccination programmes.

“DCGI’s Subject Expert Committee has granted ‘in principle’ approval to Bharat Biotech for the conduct of ‘Phase III superiority study and Phase III booster dose study’ for its intranasal COVID vaccine and has asked it to submit protocols for approval,” s statement said.
