Delhi Health
Minister Satyendar Jain had informed on Sunday that the state government has
approved a total of 89 centres to conduct the COVID-19 vaccination drive in New
Delhi, beginning from January 16. “The Centre has finalised around 5,000 sites across the country. As
per the directions of the central government, we have finalised 89 hospitals as
vaccination sites. The first phase of vaccination will start from January
16,” said Jain.

He added that 40
government and 49 private hospitals will establish a vaccination centre each,
reported PTI.

The Health Minister also
told reporters, “The first batch of vaccines will arrive by Tuesday or
Wednesday. In the first phase, health care workers will be vaccinated.
Thereafter, frontline workers including teachers and those aged above 50 will
be given the doses.”

Jain also said that around
10 health workers will be deployed at every site. “We are fully
prepared to roll out the vaccination programme. We will administer the vaccine
as soon as the doses arrive,” he added.

The minister also
mentioned that the Delhi government has already requested the Central
government to deliver vaccines free of cost.

He also told that the city
has been observing less than thousand cases per day for the past 15 days.
