Within two weeks of the ‘extremely severe cyclonic storm’ Tauktae, another cyclone is set to hit India’s shores. Cyclone Yaas is expected to start forming in the Bay of Bengal by May 22, RK Jenamani, a senior scientist at the India Meteorological Department (IMD) told ANI.

“Low pressure of the new cyclonic storm is expected to start forming in the Bay of Bengal by May 22,” he told the news agency. 

“May 23 should mark depression stage and the final cyclonic storm is expected to hit by May 24 to 25,” Jenamani added.

Cyclone Yaas is expected to hit the shores of Odhisha and West Bengal on May 26, the scientist said. Both states will receive heavy rainfall from May 22 to 26.

The cyclonic storm is forming in the week, cyclone Tauktae battered India’s western coast, killing as many as 45 people. It made landfall in Gujarat on Monday and was the most severe to hit the state since 1998.

Last year, super cyclonic storm Amphan wreaked havoc in West Bengal, Odisha and Bangladesh that killed about 100 people in India.
