Details of what happened with the Air India Express flight which crashed at Kerala’s Kozhikode airport killing 18 people on Friday night have been trickling in constantly. New visuals from the accident site emerged on Saturday morning showing how exactly the Boeing 737 jet overshot the runway and fell into a valley.

A video shared by news agency ANI shows the badly mangled aircraft, broken into at least two pieces, resting close to a wall after it skidded-off from the tabletop runway of Karipur airport. The video shows the nose of the aircraft completely destroyed. Gates of emergency exits can been seen pulled out.

While official techinal details are yet to come out, data shared by private flight tracking firms showed that the aircraft tried to attempt landing at least twice amid heavy rains. The pilot-in-command Captain Deepak Sathe and his co- pilot Akhilesh Kumar were among those were killed in the crash, the first major aviation disaster in the India in more than a decade.

Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA), which has already launched a high-level probe into the crash, has said that the Digital Flight Data Recorder (DFDR) or the Black Box has been recovered from the damaged aircraft. The Black Box records all the audio from inside the cockpit which the experts will use in the investigations.
