Stuart Binny, who represented India in six Tests, 14 ODIs and three T20 internationals has decided to hang up his boots. The 37-year-old announced in a statement on Monday that he is retiring from international cricket.

“I would like to inform you that I have decided to retire from first class and international cricket.”

“It has given me tremendous joy and pride to have represented my country at the highest international level,” Binny’s statement read.

Binny’s father, Roger, also represented India.

The handy all-rounder did not have many international runs under his belt but the highlight of his career remains the six-wicket haul in an ODI against Bangladesh in June 2014.

Binny’s stat in Dhaka is the best bowling performance in ODIs with only Anil Kumble’s six-wicket haul against the West Indies in 1993.

The only difference between the two — Kumble conceded 12 runs while Binny only four.

Commentator Harsha Bhogle shared his best wishes for Binny’s future.

The Karnataka all-rounder played 95 first class matches that led to the then skipper MS Dhoni to give him a shot in a couple of Test matches.

Binny scored 78 runs in his second innings against England in 2014, making that his only half-century in the six Tests he played for his country.

Things started going downhill for him after a T20 game against the West Indies where he was thrashed for 31 runs in an over, including five sixes from Evin Lewis.

Binny’s replacement was seen in Hardik pandya, an explosive batting all-rounder shaping up for the big stage.

Binny, who wants to continue giving back to cricket, will look at a move to coaching next.

In his retirement statement, Binny thanked the BCCI, the different teams he played with, fellow players and coaches for helping him become an established cricketer.
