Amazon Quiz (25th September 2021): India were bowled out for 78 in the first innings of a Test match played at which venue in England in 2021?

a) Lord’s

b) The Oval

c) Headingley

d) Old Trafford

Answer: (c) Headingley

India’s 78 against England on the first day of the third Test at
Headingley on Wednesday was their eighth-lowest total in Test cricket and
third-lowest in England.

In 1974, India’s lowest score
in England was 42 at Lord’s in London. The Ajit Wadekar-led team had reached
302 in the first innings against England’s 600-plus total and then crumbled for
just 42 in the second, with Eknath Solkar leading the way with an unbeaten 18
and no other batsman reaching double digits.

India was defeated by innings and 285 runs.

The 58 in Manchester in 1952 is India’s lowest in England. The Vijay
Hazare-led side was defeated by an innings and 207 runs in the third Test of
the series. They were bowled out for 82 in the second innings after collapsing
for 58 in the first.

India were bowled out for 36
in the first of four Tests against Australia in Adelaide in December of last
year. In Test history, it is India’s lowest-ever score. At the Adelaide Oval,
India’s innings lasted only 21.2 overs.

India, on the other hand, can take
inspiration from England’s performance in the 2019 Ashes Test in Leeds,
Headingley, when they were bowled out for 67 in the first innings but recovered
to chase down a 359-run goal.
