Nodirbek Abdusattorov is a grandmaster from Uzbekistan. He won the World Rapid Championship in 2021. He was the youngest player to do it at the age of 17 years old. During the World Rapid Championship, he defeated GM Magnus Carlsen and GM Ian Nepomniachtchi in tiebreaks.
His first major achievement was winning the 2012 World Youth Championships Under-8 class.
At the age of nine, he defeated two GMs in a single tournament, Andrey Zhigalko, and Rustam Khusnutdinov.
At 11, he set a record by becoming the youngest player to enter the top-100 juniors on the FIDE April 2015 rating list.
At regular time controls, Abdusattorov has rated as high as fourth in the world for juniors.
In January 2022, the 17-year-old prodigy received a cash prize, the keys to a two-room apartment, and a Presidential medal in a ceremony that was held at the headquarters of the National Olympic Committee in the country’s capital Tashkent.
He was awarded a cash prize of around €20,300, in addition to the $45,000 won in Warsaw.
“Today is a very important day for me. We, chess players, are very pleased with the attention they are giving us. I assure you, this victory is just the beginning,” he told Sputnik after the ceremony.
Javokhir Sindarov, 16, was also present at the ceremony and received a cash prize of €8,200.
“Some of our openings coincided. Many have already guessed, so we decided to reveal this secret — that Nodirbek and I worked together. If we told about this in advance, his opponents, for example, Carlsen, could study my games and prepare for the game against Nodirbek. It is not only about the opening, but also about the structure, type of thinking, positions,” Sindarov said at the ceremony.
