The “Immortals of Meluha” is a novel by Indian English author Amish Tripathi. The book is first of a series of Tripathi’s “Shiva Trilogy. The “Immortals of Meluha” is set in the fabled land of Meluha and starts with the arrival of Shiva. In the book, as in Hindu mythology, Sati is the wife of Shiva.
The central premise of Tripathi’s novel is that all gods were once human beings and it was their deeds as humans that transformed them into gods. Published in 2010, “The Immortals of Meluha” became an immediate commercial success in India. The book had to be reprinted a number of times to keep up with the demand.
In February 2013, Amish Tripathi’s Shiva Trilogy became the fastest-selling book series in Indian publishing history with 2.5 million copies on print.
In the novel, the protagonist is Shiva, a Tibetan immigrant to Meluha and the chief of a tribe named Guna. Sati is a Meluhan princess and daughter of emperor Daksha.
