Vinisha Umashankar, a 15-year-old from Tiruvannamalai in Tamil Nadu, won the prestigious Children’s Climate Prize, awarded by the Sweden-based Children’s Climate Foundation, in November 2021 for making a solar-powered ironing cart.

The 15-year-old was awarded $11,000 to improve her innovation, which the Children’s Climate Foundation praised, saying, “If implemented on a large scale, this is an invention that can have a significant positive impact on India’s air quality and people’s health.”
