Rose
Answer: Rose
Rose fossils dating back 35 million years have been unearthed by archaeologists.
Roses are the oldest plant species to be produced for ornamentation, according to the Guinness Book of World Records. The rose (genus Rosa, family Rosaceae) is the oldest plant species cultivated and used for decoration. According to documents dating back to AD 50, the flowers were grown in enormous plantations and local hothouses to assure a year-round supply of medical extracts, cooking ingredients, and decoration. Roses were used to decorating buildings, furniture, and individuals in ancient Rome, and petals were laid to form rose carpets and walkways.
There is evidence that the Chinese and Japanese developed rose gardens 5,000 years ago, though it is unknown if they were for ornamental purposes. Similarly, Theophrastus (382-287 BC) described rose cultivation in ancient Greece but not its purpose.
What’s more, the oldest living rose is 1,000 years old. It grows on the wall of Hildesheim Cathedral in Germany, and its presence has been documented from A.D. 815. According to folklore, the rosebush represents the wealth of Hildesheim; as long as it thrives, Hildesheim will not fall. Allied aircraft demolished the cathedral in 1945, but the bush survived. Its roots remained undamaged beneath the debris, and the shrub quickly recovered.
While most people add roses to their gardens for their beauty, roses have a long history of being used as food and medicinal. Roses are considered to be helpful plants because they are classified as “herbs.” Their petals are edible, and rose water (produced by soaking the petals in water) is frequently used to flavour jellies and jams, as well as Indian and Chinese foods.
