Amazon Quiz (August 5, 2021)- Which of these is often referred to as the Gulf of Berbera?

Gulf of Tonkin

Gulf of Aden

Gulf of Bahrain

Gulf of Guinea

Answer: Gulf of Aden

Gulf of Aden, known as gulf of Berbera too, connects with the Red sea bab-el-Mandeb strait, which in turn drowns to the east into the Arabian sea. Gulf of Aden is a deepwater child which faces Yemen to the north, Djibouti to its West, Somaliland down south.

Ancient Greeks considered this as one of the most significant areas of the Erythraean Sea. Later, as the entire gulf converted to Islam, Muslims dominated the area. 1960 onwards, Soviet naval presence in the region was at its peak. Even as the Gulf of Aden’s ‘tryst with destiny’ moment was taking shape, the opening of the Suez canal had been of particular importance. But in as soon as 1975, it reopened after being shut briefly with the support of the Egyptian government.

It’s an important waterway in the larger scheme of things since being for Persian gulf oil. Close to 11% of the global seaborne petroleum cruises through it and on its way to the Suez Canal/ regional refineries.

As a result of International Navy patrolling and active private security, attacks declined sharply by 2013. Countries with significant import/export interest through the route keep warships to pre-empt any adverse situation.
