The Delhi University is an Indian collegiate public central university in New Delhi. It was established in 1922 by an Act of the Central Legislative Assembly and is recognised by the University Grants Commission as an Institute of Eminence (IoE) (UGC). The mascot of DU is an elephant. 

The elephant in the logo stands for sagacity and wisdom, the lotus flowers represent art and beauty, the open book is for knowledge and learning and the river is the Yamuna flowing through the city of Delhi.

Motto in Sanskrit may be translated as “Firm devotion to Truth”. 

 The principal tasks of a collegiate university are shared between the institution’s academic departments and constituent colleges. It began with three colleges, two faculties, and 750 students and has since grown to become India’s largest and one of the world’s largest higher education institutions. The university’s North and South campuses are home to 16 faculties and 86 departments. There are 77 constituent colleges and five more institutes that make up the university. The Vice President of India is also the chancellor of the university.
