Amazon Quiz (1st Oct 2021): Raksha Bandhan was observed in India on which of these days in 2021?

a) August 18

b) August 20

c) August 22

d) August 24

Answer: (c) August 22

Raksha Bandhan is a prominent Hindu ceremony held throughout
South Asia and other regions of the world inspired by Hindu culture. Sisters of
various ages tie a talisman, or amulet, called the rakhi, around their
brothers’ wrists on this day, symbolically safeguarding them, getting a gift in
exchange, and historically entrusting the brothers with a portion of the duty
of their potential care.

Raksha Bandhan is celebrated on the final day of the Hindu
lunar calendar month of Shraavana, which occurs in August most years. The term
Raksha Bandhan,” which means “bond of protection, obligation,
or care” in Sanskrit, is now commonly used to refer to this ceremony.

While Raksha Bandhan is observed
throughout South Asia, different areas commemorate the day in different ways. For
instance, this day is also known as Jhulan Purnima in the state of West Bengal.
There are prayers and pujas dedicated to Krishna and Radha. Sisters bind their
brothers with rakhi and wish them immortality. Political parties, offices,
friends, schools to colleges, and the street to the palace all commemorate this
day as a new beginning for a healthy relationship.
