Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal, on Friday, after an emergency meeting over the increasing COVID-19 cases said that there are no plans for lockdown in the national capital. The meeting was attended by Delhi Health Minister Satyendar Jain and other officials.

“In the last few days, COVID19 cases in Delhi have been rising. 3,583 new cases have been reported in Delhi in the last 24 hours. This rise in cases now is the fourth wave. We are taking all possible measures, there is no need to worry,” Arvind Kejriwal said.

“We are focusing on the COVID19 vaccination, 71,000 vaccinations were done in Delhi yesterday,” he further added.

Delhi, on Wednesday, recorded 2,790 new COVID-19 cases and nine deaths in the last 24 hours. This is Delhi’s highest daily figure this year. The national capital recorded 1,819 cases on Wednesday, this witnessing a 53% climb in COVID-19 cases.

India on Thursday recorded 81,466 COVID-19 cases and 469 deaths.

There are 614,696 active virus cases, while 1,15,25,039 have recovered. A total of 245,912,587 samples have been tested for the novel coronavirus, including 11,13,966 samples tested on Thursday, the Indian Council of Medical Research (ICMR) said.

India on Thursday started the third phase of the COVID-19 vaccination drive for 65 lakh people aged above 45.

Over 3.6 lakh healthcare and frontline workers were inoculated against the virus after the vaccination drive began on January 16.
